  Anomalies Present in Enertion Video / Data Logging Software?
Posted by: devin - 05-04-2017, 06:01 AM - Forum: Ride Pics / Videos / Data Logging Forum - Replies (7)

I watched a data logging video recently which was produced by electric skateboard company Enertion, and in the video I noticed some strange numbers in the logging data which in my opinion appear to be possible anomalies or errors in the logged data.

I am at a loss to explain how these numbers could have been possibly been produced in the data log of the Enertion video.

This belief is based on a comparison of the Enertion-produced video with another logging video produced by Benjamin Vedder, inventor of the VESC Brushless Motor Controller, as well as my understanding of VESC pulsed power physics (described at website MotorAmps.com ).

As evidence for the anomalies, in the Benjamin Vedder video, a simple ratio exists at all times to a high degree of accuracy between "Battery Current," "Motor Current," & "Duty Cycle."

The ratio between these numbers is completely described by the formula:

motor amps x (duty cycle / 100) = battery amps

In the Enertion-produced video however, the numbers vary from this formula by a wide margin, indicating to me possible faults or bugs in the logging software?

Anyone have an opinion?

Understanding VESC: the difference between "battery amps" and "motor amps"

In any attempt to understand the VESC, one must grasp basic equations governing the software:

- battery amps x pack voltage = wattage into motor

- (motor amps x (% duty cycle / 100)) x pack voltage = wattage into motor

- battery amps = (motor amps x (% duty cycle / 100))

- % duty cycle = (battery ampsmotor amps) x 100

^ these ratios will be true at all times in any VESC data logging video

the meaning of "battery amps" and "motor amps" ... a constant source of tension in the esk8 community....

these equations may sound objectionable to many at first glance!

indeed they did to me. but i challenge anyone to show a single frame of a vesc logging video under throttle which does not match the equations.

ANY VESC logging video proves the fundamental difference in meaning between "MOTOR amps" and "BATTERY amps" in the VESC.

If anyone can DISPROVE any of these equations with a single logging video still frame which doesn't match the equations, please post here.

Also, please post any logging video still frames which do support the equations and basic definitions.

  Relationship Between Pi & Phi

When researching the great pyramid of egypt, I discovered this:

1=(pi*sqrt(phi))/4

pi= 3.14159
phi = 1.61803
sqrt(3) = 1.73205

The "Is My Math Right?!" Thread

It was suggested by @treenutter forum moderator, that, since I often observe mathematical errors and misstatements (and respond to them), maybe I should start a thread devoted to Math Mistakes and Misstatements.

So here it is.

In an effort to avoid "ruining other people's discussions with math," whenever I see misstatements being made about products I care about, I will post my observations here, preserving the "sanctity" of other people's threads.
